This afternoon I encountered 24 WILLETS at the park on the wildlife loop
near the park office. Also present were 11 CASPIAN TERNS, 39 (more?)
GREATER YELLOWLEGS and a scattering of peeps. Lots of YELLOW and PALM
WARBLERS, and a few YELLOW-RUMPS. The other bird of interest was a single
COMMON GALLINULE. We kicked it up on the western edge on the loop and it
flew about 50 yards and landed on a mud flat, giving great looks before
retreating to a patch of cattails.
The lake level is down and there is some good shorebird habitat along the
wildlife trail so it could hold some other surprises.
