Checked out the ponds adjacent to Jersey Rd E of Beaver Dam this morning. I
could not find the phalaropes Daryl saw yesterday. Only shorebirds were a
couple of killdeer and about 20 pectoral sandpipers. The whooping crane has
returned. Initially it was in the pond just after you turn from CTH A onto
Jersey. Later it moved into the old cornfield behind that pond. Checked a few
other ponds but they were devoid of shorebirds. The only excitement this
morning was a FOY white-crowned sparrow below our feeders.
