Round trip this past weekend to Superior via Hayward for the American
Birkebeiner resulted in 42 species of birds in spite of Friday's snow event.
Species seen included an evening grosbeak, pine grosbeaks, redpolls, red &
white winged crossbills, 2 northern shrikes, several pileated woodpeckers and
the northern hawk owl:

We seem to have missed the reported Great Gray owl(s) by leaving Superior an
hour or two too early... sigh.
