Fear not Wisconsin birders, there is hope... I just returned from a trip to FL where I saw many amazing birds and also many familiar Wisconsin birds as well. Near any tree, bush or shrub were yellow- rumped warblers and if you looked long enough you could find a palm warbler also. Several spots held hundreds of robins, over the waters were tree swallows. In the marshes were coot , moorhen, and bitterns. Red-winged blackbirds at feeders too. Saw the first purple martins also. Yes there are birds heading our way... Lifers for the trip : brown headed nuthatch, Limpkin, white ibis, Roseate Spoonbill, Reddish Egret, black rail (heard only, I wasn't THAT lucky) Florida Scrub Jay, Crested Caracara, snail kite, painted bunting, fish crow, common ground doves, wood stork, mottled duck. While not lifers other neat birds, Red-cockaded WP, tri-colored and little blue herons, Northern Gannets, white and brown pelicans. Also spotted an otter ,dolphins, armadillo, alligators and a bobcat. We attended the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife festival in Titisville FL it was nice to hear some bird sounds again.
