Yes, posting of exact locations of state-endangered birds on public listservs
should definitely be avoided. This also includes the locations of nesting
raptors, which can legally be taken by licensed falconers.
This article about reporting rare species on eBirdn also generally applies to
Wisbirdn:

Note that it is by no means a complete list, but please also see the DNR
article that Kyle posted a link to just now. If you have any question at all
about whether you should post something to the list, please contact me or
listowner Tom Sykes first (peter.fissel@xxxxxxxx or sykes@xxxxxxxxxx). Usually
best to try me first, as Tom travels much more than I do.
Common sense should apply in some situations. Personally, I don't have a
problem with folks mentioning that they were at the Visitor's Center or on the
observation tower at Necedah NWR and saw a Whooping Crane a half-mile away on
the north side of the flowage. That's a closed area anyway, so it's not as
though someone is going to be able to try to get closer for better photos (at
least unless they want to risk the high probability of a very steep fine and
other sanctions from the feds...)
