I joined the Bay Beach sanctuary warbler walk this morning, until the rains
ended it for most of us. We had 15 warbler species, no comparing to Milwaukee,
with nothing out of the ordinary. Most of us added quite a few warbler species
for this year as the migration has been spotty at best up here.
I then worked the Shiocton area for a while this afternoon before the rains got
going again. Best was a Piping Plover at the junction of 47 and Brandt Rd
(just north of Black Creek). A Killdeer was chasing it over the flooded field
which attracted my attention. Then at the junction of State and Kringle Rds to
the west and north of the plover pond a Cattle Egret was working a field along
State Rd. Other spots yielded a total of 10 shorebirds in the area. A pair of
Trumpeter Swans are present on the diked area along Van Patten Rd (all of this
is in Outagamie county).
