I think that is a very safe assumption - there is almost no open water down this way, other than the Yahara River and where it flows through lakes. It's going to be some weeks before much opens up, even including the smaller ponds. With luck, by the weekend of the 22nd, there at least will be some waterfowl back. As a reminder, the rescheduled Madison Audubon Lower Mud Lake field trip will be on this Saturday (March 15.) Lower Mud is opening up, since the Yahara flows through it. Steve Thiessen is hoping more birds come in on Friday, when there should be more southerly winds. Meet at the end of Lewis Lane in McFarland, off Exchange St., at 7:00 a.m. You do not need to be a Madison Audubon member to attend most of our field trips.
