An update from WGLBBO Waterbird Watch Technician Jonathan Stein: A total of 44 species were tallied today, in what was one of our best days of the season to date. Present and accounted for were all expected waterfowl species including all three scoters, all three mergansers, both scaup, both teal, canvasback and redhead. As usual, greater scaup and red-breasted merganser led the way in overall numbers. But after recent poor conditions, other species were itching to move in good numbers as well. American wigeon, northern shoveler, northern pintail, green-winged teal, gadwall, lesser scaup, bufflehead, canvasback, redhead, common merganser, common loon and horned grebe all totaled season-to-date high counts. Other highlights included our first noteworthy movement of killdeer and tree swallow and first-of-spring rusty blackbird, eastern phoebe, wilson's snipe and golden-crowned kinglet sightings. And to top things off, a big female peregrine falcon swooped in and shot northbound down the lakeshore, stirring up a whole mess of songbirds during the early afternoon. Not a bad way to break in a new month! http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S17698130 William Mueller Director, Western Great Lakes Bird and Bat Observatory WGLBBO online: wglbbo.org wpmueller1947@xxxxxxxxx office 262-285-3374 cell 414-698-9108 blog: futureofbirds.blogspot.com Belgium, WI #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
