I am posting this on behalf of Chris Trosen, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist at St. Croix Wetland Managment District. We have partnered with the Wisconsin DNR to survey a handful of grassland nesting species within the Star Prairie Bird Conservation Area (SPBCA). The SPBCA is a small area which can generally be described as the land within the triangle between New Richmond, Star Prairie and Deer Park, Wisconsin. Training will be held for volunteer birders interested in taking part in the survey on the evening of May 6th (6:00 PM) and the Morning of May 7th at 1764 95th Street, New Richmond, Wisconsin 54017. Volunteers will learn how to identify the species we are targeting by sight and call and also learn how to tell the distance the bird is from where they observed it. After the training the birders will be given a route and will have the opportunity to collect two to three mornings worth of data over a three to four week window.
