After looking at the WSO "Arrival and Departure Dates" list, it appears that the Ross's Goose I found on Wednesday may be a new state early fall record by a week (the current record listed is September 15). Of course I have to submit the required info to WSO, and they have to review and accept the record, but there are several witnesses and we have good photos, so I'm cautiously optimistic. Just wanted to share my excitement! Kind of interesting to find a new life bird and a potential state record about a five minute walk from my front door! Also interesting that the record early date for this bird would be in Milwaukee, instead of up north somewhere. That Ross's must have been seriously thrown off course by the front that came through earlier this week. (Note: the bird was present only on Wednesday. I couldn't relocate yesterday or today). Several people have mentioned to me that I see a lot of interesting birds. I think that's a function of the amount of time I spend birding. I'm in the field at least 25-30 hours a week. My BIGBY motto is: "If you spend a lot of time LOOKING for stuff, you're more likely to SEE a lot of stuff." When I found the Ross's Goose Wednesday I was just finishing up a 6.5 hour BIGBY circuit of Milwaukee's lakefront. I was taking a break, sitting at a picnic table and happened to look up and see the Ross's in a flock of Canadas. I suppose there's a little luck involved as well. :-) Bernie Sloan Milwaukee #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
