I checked out Van Patten Rd late this morning. There is a nice variety of ducks scattered in the dikes plus the flooded fields to the north. One Yellow-headed Blackbird was in the northwest dike, way in the back. Unfortunately the grebe that is located in the flooded fields to the north is a Horned, not an Eared. Bill size, shape; neck thickness; and the head markings indicate a Horned coming into breeding plumage.
