It was a gorgeous morning in Madison today! My husband and I walked in the Arboretum from about 8:30-11:15 am. As soon as we got out of the car at the Wingra Woods parking area we saw PINE WARBLERS; we counted at least 8 there and in the next little patch of road. We walked the lower trail down by the springs and found 7 PALM WARBLERS and one BLACK-AND-WHITE, as well as a HOUSE WREN and 3 HERMIT THRUSHES. Yellow-rumps and ruby-crowned kinglets were abundant. Several e. towhees singing or calling, a yellow-bellied sapsucker too. 2 osprey overhead over the lake. As we made our way back up from the lower trail we were delighted to hear at least 2 (maybe 3?) BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS; we were able to get bins on one of them. So nice to see and hear them back! Dipped on winter wren which would be a life bird for my husband, but with all the warblers we had a more than satisfactory morning!!
