Hi all -
Tuesday we were driving South on Hwy 51 S of Manitowish and spotted 2 Swans
on the open water of the Manitowish River. We had to stop and turn around!
There were 9 all told. 4 adults (2 with yellow neck collars) and 5
immatures. They even trumpeted a few times for us before they leisurely swam
upstream.
This brought to mind some swan questions. Do Wisconsin Trumpeters migrate
any distance? Or only far enough to find open water? Might these be the
Powell Marsh Trumpeters? Or are they likely from farther afield?

They were gorgeous and very close to the bridge. We got great looks at
these amazing, huge birds.
Glad I was looking out the window instead of knitting at this point in the
trip!
