....during my night out at my study area Friday night, folks. First of all I thought I'd give the Bradley Marsh a try for sedge wrens and such. Now keep in mind I'm out there at midnight, the sky was mostly moony, the temps were mild, and the winds were under 10 mph. Perfect conditions !! I'm facing south, listening to the sedge wrens, a song sparrow and a redwing blackbird, then to the north, behind me, I hear at least 3 yowling coyotes, COOL !!, and no big deal, until, no more than an estimated few 100 or so feet away, and 2 minutes later, another yowl, much, MUCH closer and to the east. My Fruit of the Looms became not so fruitful. And I flew outta there PDQ, and to my next stop: the south bend of Bradley. Actually got another FOY there, Short-eared owl. The sneezy barks were off to the east from there. In other news, had 2 decent sightings Friday, Osprey and an odd late singing Nashville warbler. Today, Sunday, I stopped at Campbell Creek coming home from work and got a pair of shovelers and a Gr Blue heron. In addition to Friday night, my main priority was to walk out to the marsh to get rails, coots and other stuff, but that's when the wind really kicked in. That put a damper on that walk !! The only things I did hear from the marsh were just those 2 mentioned Rallids. Soras and coots, earlier on Cty. M. Came very close to smacking a deer at the end of my visit. Thank God for fast reflexes. Then in closing, before this pending storm gets kicking, actually saw a GH owl flying over Murdock and Algoma, earlier this Sunday eve. 'Twas a pleasant treat.
