I spent a little over 4 hours on Old Marsh Road, Horicon NWR, Dodge County this
morning and then did a quick check along STH49.
There were shorebirds, but no Buff-breasted Sandpipers. The drawdown east of
the pumphouse and in the ponds on the east half of Old Marsh Road has created
some habitat that looks great for Buff-breasted, but according to eBird, only
one has been seen and that was along STH49 the day before the WSO field trip.
If it had remained, the field trip participants would have seen it.
Shorebirds along Old Marsh Road were 2 Greater Yellowlegs, approx. 20 Lesser
Yellowlegs, 3 Pectoral Sandpipers, about 8 Semipalmated Sandpipers, about 20
Least Sandpipers, 4 Spotted Sandpipers, 1 Solitary Sandpiper, about 16
Killdeer, 1 juvenile Short-billed Dowitcher (seen on way in, but not on
return), and 1 Baird's Sandpiper (seen on way out, but not when I walked in).
Along STH49 there was 1 yellowlegs (sp), about a dozen Killdeer, 1 Semipalmated
Plover (limping with an apparent bad leg), and a couple of Least Sandpipers. If
Black-necked Stilts are still at the marsh they are someplace I didn't look.

I checked Wind Lake Sod Farm today in Racine County and just like everyone else
I came up empty. Not even a Killdeer to speak of on the turf :( Ryan Sallmann

If anyone runs across any shorebirds, especially in dane or rock
counties, please post here. I can’t find much of anything either but
maybe they are just later than usual this year. (wishful thinking).
I’m especially looking for a lifer; the buff-breasted sandpiper.

Well, the July adults skipped us. But I always felt that the 1st year
birds peaked the last week of August. Of course, we don't have any sod
farms near by anymore. The decent looking flooded field around here
haven't been producing any numbers of any shorebirds.

I checked the Anderson sod farm this morning. Only 30 Killdeer plusother
standard birds. I checked the Green Meadow sod farm (Stevens Pt)flight.
early this afternoon. 60 Killdeer but that was it. Still no
Buff-breasted Sandpiper anywhere---frustrating as this should be
about their peak
Any one finds them please post.
