Hello all! You cannot fully appreciate island life unless you sleep on an island. Here's your chance: The Door Islands Bird Festival is being held this coming week-end June 5 and 6 on Washington Island, also birding on Rock Island and observing the cormorant colonies and other "seabirds" from a boat at the edge of Pilot Island. There are lighthouses to photograph and inspect, clean air to inhale deeply, and the peace of isolation from daily pressures. The banquet topic will be Purple Martins by Dick Nikolai, master bander and Purple Martin worker extraordinaire. And a photo workshop with Pat Redig to help you with trying to win the photo contest. The birds are great, both migrating and breeding. And you will experience the rhythms of island life which truly are different from living on the mainland.
