Hey everyone, I went birding down in the Spring Green area this morning. At the pond along Pearl Rd, I found a lone Willet, foraging with two Greater Yellowlegs and a Dunlin. At "Peck Marsh" along Peck road at the east end of the Tri-county airport, I found the Rough-legged Hawk that has been there all winter, sitting in his usual perch. At Spring Green Preserve, I found several Lark Sparrows, Grasshopper Sparrows, a kettle of Broad-winged Hawks, both Sharpie and Cooper's Hawks, 4 flyby Wood Ducks and Eastern Meadowlark. No sign of the Mockingbird. Along Big Hollow Rd, I had a single flyby Long-billed Dowitcher. I was joined for a couple hours by Peter Fissel, Nolan Pope and Steve Thiessen who, no doubt, will be posting their own account of their morning. Other notable birds seen: Along Peck Rd: both Brewer's and Rusty Blackbirds Bakken's Pond: Blue-winged Teal, Ring-necked Duck, Bald Eagle, Rough-winged, Barn, Tree and Cliff Swallows, my FOY Hermit Thrush, lots of Yellow-rumped Warblers and some Ruby-crowned Kinglets. I was surprised by the lack of shorebirds. Where are all the sandpipers??
