Visited late yesterday afternoon once the rain ended. The DNR finally mowed the dikes so that walking is easy. The area is an errie wasteland due to the lack of rain. However, there were excellent concentrations of GREEN-WINGED TEAL (at least 200) hidden among marsh grasses in the remaining areas of water around the impoundment. Also seen were N. PINTAIL, A. WIGEON, N. SHOVELER and A. BLACK DUCK. Many blackbirds were present including (28) RUSTY BLACKBIRDS. There were about a dozen KILLDEER, several W. SNIPE, and I heard a PHEASANT. There were about a half dozen YELLOW-RUMPS, but the highlight of the visit was a single TREE SWALLOW flying north (definitely the wrong direction!!!) over the impoundment.
