Sunday marked the first open water along the west shore of Green Bay since mid-December. There are some ice heaves along shore near Oak Orchard and the open water is only several 100 yards wide. Lower Green Bay is open out to about three miles, to the tips of Long-tail Point on the west shore and Pt. Sable on the east. Pelicans, cormorants, loons and waterfowl are using this area. Most of the small flocks of swans are still passing over headed west. Great Egrets and Black-crowned Night herons showed up Sunday.
