Twice in the last few days there have been nighthawks moving over my ridgetop
neighborhood in southeast La Crosse. On Saturday, Sept. 1, at 3:30 pm ,
there was a loose flock of about 40 nighthawks hunting over my yard as they
flew north toward a valley below my neighborhood. There were barn swallows and
dragonflies hunting over my yard at the same time as the nighthawks.
Last night (Sept. 4), at 7:30 pm, I watched about 10 nighthawks fly eastward
over my backyard. They were heading away from a major storm that was moving in
a northeast direction over Minnesota and Wisconsin.
