I checked the Neenah area this morning for gulls; also Menasha for gulls and ducks. Between the Neenah library and Riverside Park there were, as has been usual for some time, hundreds of gulls. All were Herrings except for a first yr Iceland and Thayer's, plus an adult Great Black-backed. The 16 cormorants are still surviving at Jones Island in Menasha, along with a female Hooded Merganser. On the south end of Little Lake Butte des Morts, 8 Gadwalls continue to winter. However most impressive were the 1500 Common Mergansers that were seen, mainly on this lake, but also some on Lake Winnebago off Jefferson Park. Off this park also were 1 Ring-necked Duck, 2 Lesser Scaup and 10 Redheads, plus about 150 Bald Eagles.
