Thanks Carl - reminded me that I was on the grasslands last Saturday morning and teamed up with another car of birders from the Northeast WI Bird Club. The sights and sounds of the BV grasslands in early June are always a treat. Entered on Prairie Chicken Road (a little sloppy but passable) and had none other than a prairie chicken sitting on a fencepost. - only one seen that morning. (I couldn't find Short-Eared Owl Road so missed that one.) Heading west on Lake Road from Taft we had at least five singing Henslow's before the kestrel box with excellent looks at a couple of them. Had grasshopper sparrows in the vicinity of the box, mostly calling from the north side of Lake. Dickcissels and Upland Sandpiper were found on Evergreen just west from F near the south edge of the BVG. We were admiring a dickcissel thru the scope when we heard the wolf whistle and an uppie landed about 20 yards from us on Evergreen and then it started to walk west while we moved the scope to it. After entering Portage Cty on my way from Appleton I had exited Hwy 54 south on D (west of Hartman Creek SP). Shortly thereafter passed thru a nice area with woods on both sides of the road - blue-winged warbler, mourning warbler and wood thrush were heard at this location. Brewers Blackbirds were plentiful an we even managed to find Sedge Wrens along Swamp Rd just east of Elm. We also saw three Whooping Cranes in the Buena Vista area. Nice way to start a 3-day scavenger hunt. > Carl Schwartz > Sometimes of Milwaukee county > > Sent from my iPhone#################### > You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn). > To UNSUBSCRIBE or SUBSCRIBE, use the Wisbirdn web interface at: //www.freelists.org/list/wisbirdn > To set DIGEST or VACATION modes, use the Wisbirdn web interface at: //www.freelists.org/list/wisbirdn > Visit Wisbirdn ARCHIVES at: //www.freelists.org/archives/wisbirdn > > > #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
