There is a large, healthy cladiphora mat along the rocks north of Bradford Beach in Milwaukee, and I checked it Wednesday afternoon for shorebirds. I was not disappointed. First up were a Semipalmated Plover and two juvenile Semipalmated Sandpipers, soon joined by a Spotted Sandpiper in basic plumage (two more Spotties were seen shortly thereafter). Then a pair of Sanderlings flew in and foraged quite close to where I was, allowing great photos of them showing off their transitional plumage, still showing a good deal of red on their heads and necks.
