Here are more details on finding the wood duck box described earlier, in
hopes of keeping people farther away from it.
You can see the box from the main road/trail that goes out to the
point. There is a very low spot on the road with a beach on the north
and the east end of the trail that goes back along the north side of the
swamp. There are 2 outhouses ~50 feet down this trail. From here, go
back along the main road/trail ~50 yards. This puts you high above the
swamp. The box is across the swamp at about eye level. You can easily
see the box and the hole from the road. Just walk along the road
slowly, looking beyond the branches and trees.
Peter, sounds like you were about where I saw a Barred Owl on Tuesday;
probably the one that was reported here with a nice pic.
