As Bill posted, I checked out the new Forest Beach preserve in Ozaukee Co. today - very interesting place (wish I'd played it when it was still a golf course...) This could become a premier hawk-watching locale because of the open sight lines. On my way there, I stopped briefly at the Lion's Den Gorge Preserve. Had a Merlin fly over the Gentian Trail (which happens nearly every time I go there in fall.) I found a little pocket of warblers in the woods along the trail at the edge of the Waterfowl Production Area. Had a female Black-throated Blue, a couple of Am. Redstarts, a "Bay/poll" that eluded definitive ID due to flittiness, and a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, with another couple that were too obscured by leaves to see. Given how the LaCrosse radar lit up after the front went through there tonight, I wouldn't expect much to hang around, but something really interesting could well come in on the strong NW winds the next couple of days. The first Townsend's Solitaire of the season was reported today along the North Shore of Minnesota...
