Wingra Lake bird fest continues: (yesterday late afternoon and this morning):
14 hooded mergansers below the dam
6 Horned grebes in beautiful plumage along Arboretum Drive
Upwards of 30 Common Loons all over the lake (many very close to shore to
even see the red eyes)
Many groups of pied billed grebes
Large groups of red breasted mergansers
Large rafts of mixed ducks close to Vilas park and at the Wingra boat house:
ring necked ducks, canvasbacks, scaups, blue winged teals, ruddy ducks,
northern shovelers, buffleheads
wood ducks
Along the edges of the lake at at Vilas Park and at the boathouse:
yellow-rumped warblers, eastern phoebe, golden crowned kinglet
Bonaparte gulls
Large group of tree swallows on the western part of the lake
Was unable to locate the red necked grebe
