I'll be leading a Madison Audubon field trip at Lake Farm Park just southeast of Madison this Sunday morning (April 13.) We'll meet at the first parking lot off Libby Rd. at 9:00 a.m., weather permitting (looks very dicey right now, unfortunately.) If it's just spotty showers, we'll probably at least scope the lake from the boat launch, assuming there is open water close enough to see birds on it. In the event of steady rain or T-storms, the trip will have to be cancelled, as the trails will be too muddy (and it's very bad form to have your attendees struck by lightning...) It will be much cooler along the lake, since winds will likely be from the northeast - dress accordingly. Waterproof footwear would be a good idea, too. Lake Farm Park can be reached by taking the South Towne exit off of the Beltline (Hwy 12/18) and going south. Go "straight" through the roundabout, across the railroad tracks and past the water treatment plant on your right, turning left just past the fertilizer plant onto Moorland Rd. Take that past the Nine Springs parking lot to Lake Farm Rd. and go south past the Lussier Center to Libby Rd. Note that if you park in the boat landing lot by the lake, you will need either a launch permit OR a state park vehicle sticker (the park lots themselves don't require a sticker, even though the county park is part of the overall Capital Springs State Rec Area.) I'll try to remember to post something to Wisbirdn by 8:00 a.m. Sunday indicating whether the trip is on or not, but use your best judgement, as my memory is completely unreliable these days.
