Hi all, Alex and Abbey Stark, Libby Zeman and I ran my survey route for the National Eagle center's annual Golden Eagle Survey last Sat (the 16th). We covered an 140 mile route from La Crosse to Chaseburg to Melvina to Sparta. We managed to find two Golden Eagles. One adult and one juvie. Both birds were west to Northwest of the town of Melvina and south of Sparta. One on Monroe county and one just inside La Crosse County. Other raptors observed were: 11 Bald Eagles (a few in exactly the same place I had seen them last year) 17 Red-tailed Hawks (looks like a good year for them) 4 Rough-legged Hawks (including one Dark-morph) 4 Kestrels. We also found one Kingfisher fishing an open stream on our way home. Happy Birding! --Chris W, Richland County http://swallowtailedkite.blogspot.com/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/swallowtailphoto "The beauty and genius of a work of art may be reconceived, though its first material expression be destroyed; a vanished harmony may yet again inspire the composer; but when the last individual of a race of living things breathes no more, another heaven and another earth must pass before such a one can be again."
