I certainly can’t ID the birds from the photos, but my impression from the
long, thin wings in proportion to body size is that they might be one of the
large plovers. American Golden-Plover has been seen in northern Illinois
recently (per eBird), and this is about the time to expect the early arrivals.

Tracy,
The photos are very unclear, but based on what I’ve been seeing recently here
in Door County, I would guess Bonaparte’s Gulls.
Here is a photo in a recent checklist of mine:

Good afternoon!
I know the pics i have might not offer enough information for a positive
ID; but i sure would appreciate any help! I saw these 17 birds in flight
this morning over Bradford Beach. Just after i first stepped onto the beach,
i looked & saw them already in flight. They were flying over the beach (not
the lake) headed north. They appeared to be small birds to me. They appeared
to be much smaller then any duck.
I can email someone a pic directly if they think that would help (i
numbered each pic). All the pics on my checklist are cropped & very zoomed
in.

thank you!! & good birding everyone!!
