Hi all, I'm Chris Allen, an absolute 'greenhorn' at American birding. I moved to Wisconsin in February of this year from England after meeting my wife online five years ago. We live in Fond Du Lac, but yesterday we traveled to Manitowoc and I had the opportunity to walk around the marina towards the lighthouse. I've seen previous posts mentioning 'Manitowoc Impoundment'. Is this the same area? I need some help, especially with the ducks. The sawbill photos are very dark and out of focus. The bird was teal sized and in the couple of seconds I saw it, I noticed the 'merganser' bill and a wispy crest. I guess it was a young red-crested merganser but would appreciate any help. Later, I saw what I assume to be the same bird, with a sibling and mom but they were to far away for any photos. The other duck had a yellow eye and the original photo has been lightened considerably to show any distinguishing features.
