Early this evening in spite of wet weather I drove in to Husty to check on the shorebirds, see if anything new showed up. Was disappointed in that department, only 6-8 yellowlegs, but as I was standing there surveying the situation I noticed a BIG bird coming around a tree. It was so unexcpected it took a couple seconds to register, an osprey! Watched it flying up and down the river about 5 minutes. It then perched and after a few minutes it dove for the water. It came up with a 10"-12" carp. As it was flying past me on the other side of the river, the carp wiggled and the osprey dropped it. It flew around some more and perched again. Saw it dive again and saw a fish splash but the osprey pulled up 3' above the water. I sat and watched it for an hour till it finally took off and headed north, in the direction of the Horicon Marsh. The list of species I've seen there continues to grow!
