I checked for the female Harlequin Duck that Tom and Sylvia felt they had seen over the weekend off James Island in Menasha. I had very little difficulty seeing it as it actively fed in the Fox River off Matthewson St, which is the first deadend off Fox St. When it is not feeding it sits on the rocks at the end of the street by the warm water outlet. The male Belted Kingfisher, that I had seen there a few weeks ago, is also actively feeding at this same spot. It does not like when a vehicle pulls up; consequently flying up river, but eventually it returns to sit in the trees overlooking the river. Oddly there are no different ducks, other than the standard Mallards, Black Ducks, C. Goldeneyes and C. Mergansers located here as well as elsewhere on Little Lake Butte des Morts, and Lake Winnebago off Kimberly Pt and Jefferson Park, Neenah and Menaha, respectively. However below the Neenah dam there are three D. cr. Cormorants (all immatures) and one adult Great Black-backed Gull. If you try for the Harlequin, it is probably best that you do not get out of your vehicle. Good luck.
