you haven't seen any of Jack's photo's do your self a favor attend
this program. If your not moved by his images, well, come take a look
for yourself.

See below for hike on Sunday and description of Thursdays program.

Bird hike April 17th 7 AM meet at Horicon Education Center, We will be
touring Horicon Marsh and maybe a little bit beyond, looking for early
returns from warmer climates.

Meeting
The next meeting of the Horicon Marsh Bird Club will be held on
Thursday, April 21st at 7:00 p.m. in lower level of the Horicon Marsh
International Education Center located between Mayville and Horicon on
Hwy. 28.

Jack and Holly Bartholmai will be presenting three “photo essays”
which focus on the beauty and diversity of wildlife found in Dodge
County. Using Jack’s digital photography, and Holly’s choices of
music, and readings, the still photos seem to come to life. Other than
introductory and closing readings, there will be no narration during
the programs, which are designed to be more of a photographic
experience to be enjoyed. Two of the short presentations are new and
have not been previously presented in Dodge County.

One of these vignettes is entitled “Reflections on a Wetland”.
Although images of birds predominate the program, there is also a look
at the beauty and diversity of life found on the Horicon Marsh and
wetlands of Dodge Co. including mammals, amphibians, reptiles,
insects, and plants. This presentation follows a day in a wetland from
sunrise to sunset.

“The Beauty of Bluebirds” is a short program which traces the life
cycle of the Eastern Bluebird as it returns to Dodge Co. in early
spring, finds nesting sites, mates, builds a nest, lays eggs, and
raises young. The colors, shapes, and patterns of Bluebird feathering,
the grace of wings in flight and signal patterns are shown up close.
Fledglings at the nest box hole waiting for their next meal, the
awkward first flight from nest box to a nearby perch, and the proud
pose of a successful fledged Bluebird are captured moments that few us
get to otherwise see.

“Wood Ducks Up Close” is a look into the world of a duck which nests
in cavities of trees or nest boxes provided by people. These are
exquisitely colored birds, whose feather patterns are among the most
beautiful found in the bird world. The program follows their return to
Dodge Co. in early spring, search to a nest sight, nesting, hatching
of ducklings, and the incredible “Wood Duck leap” of ducklings from
the nest box to the ground or water below the box. Some live video is
interspersed with the still photos.
