Hello, I finally visited where the Milwaukee and Kinnickinnic Rivers meet at the end of Erie Street just south of Milwaukee's downtown area. I was trying to find some gulls that were NOT Herring or Ring-billed. My scope was giving me a hassle and the wind was in my face, making it difficult. And of course, I didn't run into any birders who know about gulls--I think I had missed Jim E, Jym M and John D, by just an hour or so. :( In any case, I thought a few gulls "looked different" so I posted some photos. They are probably all Herrings, but I am trying to learn, so if anyone wants to comment, I would appreciate it. My Stokes Field Guide to the Birds of North America shows each gull in various plumage and contains detailed descriptions, but I still get confused. Additionally, the adult winter Thayer's Gull on p. 322 looks like a Herring to me based on the eye. Does anyone else who has that guide think so? I have read and seen elsewhere that the Thayer's doesn't have the glowing eye like the Herring. Additionally, there are some fun photos of the hundreds of scaup and the many goldeneyes and mergansers present. http://www.flickr.com/photos/49427613@N03/sets/72157632741233288/ Thanks for any feedback, -- Jennifer Ambrose Bayview, Milwaukee County #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
