Gathering Waters Festival (with a birding component) Saturday, June 11, 2011 - 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Lakeshore State Park, Milwaukee – off the coast of Summerfest An urban outdoor experience on a peninsula park in Lake Michigan. This is a free event with the best in local food, music, beer and over 100 exhibitors on outdoor activities, fishing, birding, boating, canoeing, kayaking, rockwall climbing, wellness, natural landscaping and Milwaukee's waters. Activities and demos for all ages. The Park has a sandy small boat beach, boat docks, fishing piers, prairies, rain gardens and trails that link to the Hank Aaron State Trail and Oakleaf Trails. The Gathering Waters Festival is part of Lakeshore State Park's signature educational programs - the Great Lakes and Freshwater Ecology Series. This event educates the public on freshwater issues and recreational opportunities. We're also celebrating National Get Outdoors Day - 1 of 100 events nationwide to get kids outdoors. This festival is promoted as a mainstream summer kick-off on Milwaukee's lakefront with the best in local food, music and beverages. It is not promoted as an environmental event, so we're able to reach a broader audience that needs to understand more about these issues. There will be over 120 exhibits and demonstration and an expected audience about 10,000.
