Hi everyone-- Six species of warbler, including 18 American Redstarts, were in Estabrook Park, Milwaukee Co., on Saturday morning (yesterday), but the birds I was most excited about were two Eastern Bluebirds, very much alive, hunting from trees in the northwestern corner of the dog exercise area. Question: Do male bluebirds acquire a bright orange chest and dark blue back and wings the year they fledge? Does the head of bluebirds at this age appear gray, not blue? --Chuck Chuck Hagner Milwaukee Co., WI Begin forwarded message: > From: do-not-reply@xxxxxxxxx > Subject: eBird Report - Estabrook Park, Aug 25, 2012 > Date: August 26, 2012 3:04:11 PM CDT > To: c_hagner@xxxxxxx > > Estabrook Park, Milwaukee, US-WI > Aug 25, 2012 7:10 AM - 10:50 AM > Protocol: Traveling > 3.0 mile(s) > Comments: Badgerland Striders half-marathon was being conducted in park > at same time. > 37 species (+1 other taxa) > > Wood Duck 1 > Mallard 32 > Great Blue Heron 3 > Cooper's Hawk 1 > Spotted Sandpiper 2 > Herring Gull 2 > gull sp. 3 > Rock Pigeon 2 > Mourning Dove 4 > Chimney Swift 29 > Belted Kingfisher 1 > Downy Woodpecker 3 > Northern Flicker 1 > Eastern Kingbird 1 > Warbling Vireo 3 > Red-eyed Vireo 8 > Blue Jay 5 > Barn Swallow 4 > Black-capped Chickadee 18 > White-breasted Nuthatch 4 > Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 4 > Eastern Bluebird 2 Observed in large leafless tree and other trees at > northwestern corner of dog exercise area.
