Yahara Place Park
.25 Miles 60 Minutes Observers: 16
Comments: this is the Wed morning Sherman Nature Explorers Nelson Inst
UW Student Mentor training walk. We visited the mouth of the Yahara
Canal on Lake Mendota and found lots of birds enjoying the warm sun and
open water. Remaining ice was 24 deg and shoreline rocks 44 deg.
Highlights were two Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers and watching the antics
of bobble-headed Common Goldeneyes and the group feeding behavior of
Northern Shovelers. One Red-breasted Merganser surfaced occasionally and
some Muskrats were eating fish by holes in the ice.

Wild Warner Park, Madison, WI

Comments: this is the Wed afternoon Sherman Nature Explorers walk in
Wild Warner Park with Nelson Inst UW Student Mentors and Madison Audubon
Bird Mentors. The rain held off a day and the kids played nature
phenology Bingo trying to find at least 10 sure signs of Spring. The
resident Sandhills winged over also a soaring Redtail and a
Rough-legged. Highlights were FOY Eastern Phoebes bobbobbobbin their
tails and brilliant Bluebirds claiming boxes.

      8 Canada Goose
      4 Mallard
      5 Northern Shoveler
      1 Bufflehead
      1 Red-tailed Hawk
      1 Rough-legged Hawk
      2 Sandhill Crane
      5 Ring-billed Gull
      1 Mourning Dove
