Finches in our area of Florence, northern Marinette, and eastern Forest
Counties are also on a down trend this year. However, in early November we had
numerous Bohemian Waxwing sightings. Currently they seem to have left, but
often they return in February. We still have trees with uneaten fruit in the
area. Generally it seems there are less birds around this year, but Mourning
Dove and Blue Jay still show strong numbers. Probably because of the hard
crusty snow, raptors are very scarce.
Pine Grosbeak-very spotty sightings
Purple Finch-here until middle of Dec. Often they are here year round
House Finch-gone since Nov. They will often return in May
Red Crossbill-Found in their reliable spot
White-winged Crossbill-spotty sightings
Common Redpoll-only few seen
Pine Siskin-seen in low numbers at several feeders
Evening Grosbeak-about the same as last year in low numbers at several feeders

Good birding,
