Several former users of Yahoo for Wisbirdn have switched to gmail. Several have not. However, all the removed Yahoo accounts are now back on Wisbirdn. The reason the Yahoo users are back on is because Freelists, the server where Wisbirdn is hosted, has devised a fix to enable Yahoo users to be returned to the list. However, the fix is by no means a panacea. The good news is that a Yahoo user is now able to receive posts as well as send posts. The bad news is that anyone using their “reply-to” function to send that yahoo address an individual message back-channel will not be able to do so. What they will see in their To: line will be: “dmarc-noreply@xxxxxxxxxxxxx” What does this mean? If you want to reply to the entire list to continue a thread in a conversation that a Yahoo user has initiated, you will have to manually replace the "dmarc-noreply@xxxxxxxxxxxxx" with "wisbirdn@xxxxxxxxxxxxx" for the entire list to see your response. However, since the Yahoo subscriber’s address has been redacted, you will no longer be able to send a personal response to the Yahoo sender back-channel. You will have to manually add that individual’s Yahoo address but of course, since it has been redacted, you won’t be able to see it to do so. The only way is if you happen to know the sender’s Yahoo email address. Chances are, you won't. If you are a Yahoo user and wish to have Wisbirdn subscribers have the opportunity to respond back-channel to any post you send to the list, you’ll have to add your Yahoo address to your signature block. Otherwise, no one will have the ability to respond back-channel (including list administrators). Freelists is still working on a better solution (as are many other listservs around the world) to deal with Yahoo and their DMARC implementation. The crux of the matter is that Yahoo is entirely unfriendly to mailing lists. For a better understanding about why Yahoo has implemented DMARC (and why other email providers may follow suit) here are a couple of links: http://www.virusbtn.com/blog/2014/04_15.xml http://blog.returnpath.com/blog/christine-borgia/all-about-yahoos-dmarc-reject-policy Finally, if you are a Yahoo user, please consider using another email provider like gmail for your Wisbirdn mail. Also, there is a Wisconsin Birding Facebook page to consider as an alternative: https://www.facebook.com/groups/wisbirdn/ (Note: The group is NOT affiliated with Wisbirdn even though the name “wisbirdn” appears in the address) Tom Sykes Wisbirdn List Owner sykes@xxxxxxxxxx #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
