Thankfully, there weren't any house sparrows in my back yard when I left to
go out today. My first bird ended up being a cardinal that was at the
feeder by the Texas Avenue overlook in Milwaukee. I spent my morning
getting my face blasted by the East winds while I looked for g u l l s. I
found all six expected winter species. I had five total Great black backed
gulls, two lesser black backed, three Iceland, one adult glaucous, probably
close to 2000 Herring, and 12 ring billed.

predictably, a dozen Dark-eyed Juncos and a Mourning Dove arrived at first
light. Later, I was pleased to see that the unpredictable Song Sparrow has
continued here into the New Year. Unfortunately, no White-crowned Sparrow
yet this winter.
