I scouted Elver park on the southwest side of Madison this morning for my
Madison Audubon Society warbler walk tomorrow morning (6 am, meet at the west
parking lot next to the softball fields). The cold and rain seems to have
suppressed a lot of bird activity, but I was still able to find some good
birds. Best bird was a beautiful male blackburnian warbler that was quite
cooperative. I also saw rose-breasted grosbeaks, Baltimore orioles, Nashville
warblers, black-and-white warblers, chestnut-sided warblers, ovenbirds, indigo
buntings, veery, common yellowthroats, least flycatchers, a hummingbird, great
crested flycatcher, warbling vireo, Swainson's thrush, wood thrush, Lincoln's
sparrow, Tennessee warbler, American redstart, and a tufted titmouse. A full
ebird list can be found below. It's supposed to be warmer tomorrow, so I'm
hoping that will increase the activity for my warbler walk.
