Hi all,
Today I had the pleasure of watching a black-capped chickadee repeatedly grab
suet from our feeder and take it to its young sitting in the trees. I'm sure
this is a common occurrence but this is the first time I was able to witness
and enjoy it.
Also, sadly, I believe that today we lost the third and final Trumpeter swan
cygnet. We were blessed with three that hatched initially on Rainbow Pond and 2
disappeared in the last month, most likely the victim of predators. Now today,
three river otters showed up in our pond and I am beginning to doubt that it
was a coincidence that the third and final cygnet disappeared. I would wonder
if others have seen otters as predators of young swans. I have been able to
read that they are predators of injured waterfall amongst many other foods that
they eat so I can't help but wonder if that was the case in this situation. Sad
to see the last of the young swans disappear. Sometimes it is challenging to
accept "the ways of the worldâ.
