Hi All, There has been and immature R.H.Woodpecker visiting suet feeders around the Cottage Glen area, and two days ago it came to ours. The mainly brown head is showing signs of red feathering when it perches in the sunshine but it has a dark red throat. It is very shy and a Red-bellied \W.P.was perched on an opposite branch sort of eying it, which was pretty intimidating! However the main sighting yesterday was a Carolina Wren! It came to the peanut holder and the sunflower seeds, but was skittish about staying around. It had a bright buffy orange belly, plain brown back and mottled wings and a prominent eye stripe. It's upraised tail as it stood on the feeder ledge alerted us at first that it was not the Red-breasted Nuthatch that had been there minutes before! With the storm blowing through from the south maybe it rode along. It was here again today in the company of Chickadees around the noon time when we observing feeders having lunch. I could not stay watching for it any more on both days alas. Checking the Door Co bird list it appears it is a rare visitor and last seen in Feb. of '04 for several days.
