Al and I spent an enjoyable afternoon touring the Buena Vista Grasslands. No warblers as yet however, we were rewarded with a view of one of the Snowy Owls - sitting in the middle of the field located south of W, between Elm and Townline. We had several good looks at Eastern Meadowlarks - one male was very cooperative, allowing us both several outstanding photographic opportunities! Included on our afternoon tour were Killdeer, Northern Harriers, Red-tailed Hawks, numerous Kestrals, Song Sparrows, American Tree Sparrows, Horned Larks, several Sandhill Cranes pairing up - the usual Buena Vista suspects. We did see two Yellowlegs in flight but none were found on the ground. A Northern Shrike perched on a fence was another one of the photographic highlights. While we didn’t see any Eastern Bluebirds, we did find them perched on an oak tree in our neighborhood. Looking forward to reports of the Shore-ear Owls!
