The Wisconsin Society for Ornithology is pleased to announce its 73rd annual convention and 2012 meeting to be held in Middleton on May 10-13, 2012. This four-day gathering will include topical oral sessions; a poster session; a banquet with speaker; and field trips to significant birding areas. Reflecting the organization's wide-ranging membership base, the convention will feature two themes: "Birding in Madison and South Central Wisconsin" and "Soaring Against the Winds" - helping birders focus on the challenge of doing good conservation at a time of public disengagement and fiscal austerity. The convention will be held in partnership with the Madison Audubon Society at the Holy Wisdom Monastery, 4200 County Highway M, Middleton. Call for Presentations -- See the complete announcement online at WSOBirds.org The WSO Board of Directors recently committed itself to seeking greater participation in its endeavors by members of the academic community at both the faculty and student level; to that end we are reinstituting its call for academic presentations at its annual conventions. Paper and poster sessions will be held on Saturday May 12. We particularly encourage graduate and undergraduate students to submit abstracts for both oral and poster presentations. Students accepted as presenters will receive complimentary convention registration, which includes Saturday's luncheon. Deadline for submitting proposals for paper sessions and posters is Dec. 31, 2011. Acceptances will be announced by Jan. 20, 2012.
