Is this the same theory you apply to your backbone switches??

I have been running three healthcare facilities for two years on D-Link
DWL-900AP+ access points and we have not had a single problem with them. At
$88 each, if one does die I am not going to get bent out of shape replacing
it.

If a $900 Proxim or Cisco AP dies, it's a big deal to replace. I have to
call them, prove I know what I am doing to their level 1 tech, then
re-explain it to their level 2 tech when it finally gets elevated, then the
third guy gets involved and I get an RMA. If I'm lucky, I'll have a new AP
the next day at some point. Probably late afternoon because next day
doesn't mean next morning. If a D-Link dies, I am going to ask someone to
run to Office Depot and by a new one, plug it into the network and I'll
configure it from there. Throw the bad one in the trash and move on with
life.

I must say I've had the same luck with Linksys, Netgear, and D-link when it
comes to AP's. I've run all three and for some reason they only seem to
last a few months (the linksys lasted the longest which was 4). I deal with
a lot of home networks so I work a lot with these brands and I'd never
expect any of them to last more than 2 years even in a light use home
enviroment.

Sadly I feel there's two classes: Home & Enterprise. I can't afford the
enterprise (nor can most small businesses) and the home grade just sucks.
I'm waiting for a small to medium sized business grade to come out but as of
yet I haven't found anything that covers that middle ground.

I have the NetGear MA40-something.. Had it turned off for over a year and
when I plugged it back in, it went right back to work. Two antennas, decent
coverage range, good compatibility (I have one 3COM card and one NetGear
card).

Whatever you get, my only recommendation is stay away from LinkSys...

Hey guys,

Do you have any recommendation (for a home user) on Wireless Access Points
(802.11 b)? Cost/Benefit

Regards,

Eduardo
