Hi Mark, Yes I did, thanks for that, and it did install the Standard TCP/IP Port = on the Win98 machine. It still solve the problem though, when I print = anything to the HP Deskjet cp1700 though either the Standard TCP/IP = Port, or the HP Jetdirect TCP/IP port I get an "unexpected error" = message and the spooler crashes. It works on other Windows 98 machines = so I don't think it is the config of the Jetdirect box or the printer.
