Thanks for the response Dennis. I did post this to the exchange list but slow
response. Everyone must still be on holiday :-).

Your steps put me on the right track. KB article 257184 outlines how to move
the exchange databases and logs. Once this was done all is working fine.
Thanks again.

Ron

  Hi Ron,

Before I start, I would like to say that you should have post this message on
an exchange newsgroup rather than this newsgroup.

Having said that, here is some information:

First of all, the M drive is a virtual drive. There is no fixed size on it,
so it will grow or shrink whenever needed.

If you open the exchange manager, expand administrative groups à first admin.
Gr. à servers à <your server name> à First storage group à right-click on
mailbox store 1 à properties à database tab.. here you will find the location
of your exchange database that actually stores all the mail.OK, now you know
the drive it is on..Does it have enough disk space????

And if you have multiple stores, check them as well.

More important (or: Most important) : Be sure not to backup the M drive!!!
This will cause severe problems. By backing up the exchange database, you have
everything you need. The M drive is just a viewable version of that database.

Looking at the error that you added to the message:

It looks like the "exchange domain servers" group can no longer be found. I
hope it's not deleted.

Alls exchange servers are a member of this group, and I wouldn't know what
would happen when it's removed..but I don't think it's a good thing.

  My 2 eurocents..

For some reason the M drive on our Exchange2000 server is completely full.
We are doing backups which are set to flush the logs. I have asked all users
to delete anything they can to clean up.

The application log is full of these error messages:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Microsoft Exchange System Attendant failed to read the membership of group
'cn=Exchange Domain Servers,cn=Users,dc=MyDomain,dc=lan'. Error code
'80072030'. Please check whether the local computer is a member of the group.
If it is not, stop all the Microsoft Exchange services, add the local computer
into the group manually and restart all the services.

The MAPI call 'OpenMsgStore' failed with the following error:

The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer has failed.
The MAPI provider failed. Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store ID no:
8004011d-0512-00000000

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I believe that if I can somehow get the M drive cleaned up then these errors
will go away.

  Any ideas? TIA.

  Ron
