Do you have a proxy or anything else that might be changing something
around? (such as the useragent string)

During Christmas my home-AD died and I had to reinstall it from scratch.
Afterwards, I can't connect to Windows Update manually to patch Windows and
Office. Automatic updates seems to be working though. I have IE8 installed

It smells of a GPO-setting problem but the usual suspects I checked look ok.
