let me rephrase the question. After I upgrade my basic disk to dynamic can I then extend this to disk to use unallocated space on the same disk. I can't verify this, can anybody verify or discredit it. "You can extend simple and spanned volumes only when the volume was originally created on a dynamic disk. Simple or spanned volumes that result from a basic to dynamic disk upgrade cannot be extended" JIM HERCHENBACH RVW Inc. _____ From: windows2000-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:windows2000-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Nick Smith Sent: Friday, October 01, 2004 9:03 AM To: windows2000@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [windows2000] Re: Extending a basic disk Yes, you can make it dynamic, but be *very* careful if it's a system disk and you're on W2K. If you're not fully patched, it almost certainly will BSOD on you, and then may not reboot; check MS KB first, and patch accordingly. If not, can I convert to dynamic disk without losing all my data....and then extend the existing logical drive? ____________________________________________ Jim Herchenbach Electrical Technician Tel: (402) 564-2876 jherchenbach@xxxxxxxxxx <mailto:jherchenbach@xxxxxxxxxx> RVW Inc. www.rvwinc.com <http://www.rvwinc.com/> RVW Inc. 4118 Howard Blvd Columbus, Nebraska 68602
